I don't know if this happens to other persons, too. But in the last 6 months, there was at least 3 times a netbird update broke my configuration:

  • I. sometimes SSH was not working anymore
  • II. sometimes DNS was broken (fixed by netbird service restart)
  • III. sometimes DNS was completely broken and I need to manually edit the /etc/resolv.conf back to (e.g.) 8.8.8.8 because netbird did not restore it
  • IV. sometimes, I cant reach services on other netbird peers
  • V. clients dont like each other (i.e. my mac was on 20.09, but other clients updated to 0.21.11, resulting in issue I for my mac)

Is there any ideas releasing a stable client + server? I really like the developement of netbird so far, but I miss stability a bit.

Some more specific:

After updating, one of my DNS setting was not set properly after update. I have a special DNS server which is set whgen a client is inside a group. But update broke this. What helped: Remove the group from client and add it back again.

Hello @ykorzikowski, sorry to see that you've been having issues with our latest versions. We are working on fixing some issues related to DNS, SSH, and connectivity. Even with the fixes, we still find some cases where things are still not stable.

Recently we've started working on a DNS improvement to reduce the dependency on our agent, which will help with your second and third issues.

Regarding SSH, we've just fixed a long-term bug with the Amazon Linux 2, but I would like to investigate a bit more with you the behavior you described; The same goes for the connectivity.
